One Second Changes Everything

Hello there everyone. I want to tell you a little story. It is actually something that I have learned this summer. May 16th was a day that my world got flipped-upside down. It started off like any other normal day. It was a Monday and I got ready for work. I currently work at a local truck stop as a waitress. No, it is not the most glamorous job, but it helps to pay the bills. My husband takes Monday's off as he is a pastor and has to work on Sundays. As lunch time was just getting started, I was told that I had a phone call. When asked who it was, I was told that it was some guy. I was about to get a little upset because I just figured it was my husband. I wasn't far off, it was about my husband. He was in a car wreck. Immediately, I though the worst, even though they assured me that everything was fine and he was doing well. As I got off of the phone, I went to find one of my bosses to tell her what was going on. I am so glad that I work with a bunch of great people. She told me to go, and I did.

The 12 minute car ride over to the hospital was nerve-racking. I have never been so scared in my life. When I arrived at the hospital, I was taken to my husband where he was laying on a stretcher. Thankfully, he was conscience and alive. I won't bore you with all of the details. But I will say that the only thing that happened to my husband was he had a broken foot. And after I saw his car, I can't believe that is all that happened. His seat belt saved his life for which I am eternally grateful for. I have no idea what I would do without my husband. One month later, he is still recuperating, but he can walk.

During this last month, I have learned many things. Mostly that while life can be hard, and our first year of marriage is quite a test for both of us, we truly do love each other. During this time, we have grown closer together, both as a couple and to God. God is not just going to hand things to us. To me, that sounds like a God who is demanding. The God that I know, will give the challenge and opportunity to grow closer to him. He does it this way because he gave us "free will." It is how we approach and handle each situation that will determine our relationship with others and God. I have taken this opportunity to thank Him that I still have a husband to take of instead of having to plan a funeral and learning to live a life without the love of my life. For that, I thank God every day.
